House Of Sin    Lucy
She said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side. Who could ever deny a walk on the New York Streets? Walking on those pavements that have been walked upon before by Lou Reed, Dion DiMucci and Joey Ramone, providers of the perfect soundtrack to the Big Apple. She said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side. And the coloured girls go, doo doo doo, doo. Let's go back to New York and follow today's path of rock, starting from the Howler Records Headquarters at Union Square West. Let's go to clubland in Manhattan. She said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side. And the coloured girls go, zZz, zZz, zZz, zZz. Walk on!

The ideal providers of today's sound of New York are the creators of The Sound Of zZz. It's the debut album by that incredibly sleazy Dutch duo by the name of zZz. Organ, drums and vocals make a sound as big as, well, New York. How cool is that? Amsterdam is their hometown, and New York has become their hometown too. Without being aware of it, these two sound wizards have incorporated elements from typical NYC bands such as Suicide and The Cramps. And the Joy Division connotations due to the Ian Curtis-y vocals were never intentional either. Add to that the biggest Doors-like organ this side of Ray Manzarek, and you got zZz. The mix of all these ingredients is 'rock the girls can dance to.' DJ Tommy Sunshine couldn't believe his luck when he first spotted the band and remixed the now legendary track Ecstasy for the dance floor. Yeah, the sound of zZz has both rock and electronic music appeal. The potential of zZz is enormous, grabbing lads and chicks.

Björn Ottenheim, the singing drummer, and keyboardist Daan Schinkel, are coming back for the third consecutive year to SXSW. Third time lucky, they will be. Apart from the regular SXSW showcase, this year at the Tower Records/Time Out showcase, the guys will also appear at the Vice Magazine party the day before. They are getting the well-deserved recognition now. New York, the former New Amsterdam and 'the real' Amsterdam will again merge in Austin. Peter Stuyvesant has returned in the guise of zZz. She said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side. And the coloured girls go, zZz, zZz, zZz, zZz.
