It's Always You    Set Sail
Some bands do things in the strangest order. There seems to be no logic behind anything they do. But hey, things work, so why would they stop? Emocore loudmouths San Andreas are the absolute limit if it comes to being bang out of order. They booked a UK tour before they even had songs! Half a year later they booked the longest UK tour by a Dutch band in 2005: three consecutive weeks, checking out every pub and club in Albion. They applied for SXSW and got an invitation to go to there before anybody at home in Holland had ever heard about them.

At home for the annual Noorderslag music conference they didn't get a regular invitation for a slot at the showcase festival. What's a band to do then? Well, they talked themselves into a live radio and Internet show to play a set at the same location, which counted as a proper Noorderslag showcase after all. Smart asses, they are. San Andreas is all about adventure and taking chances that nobody else would have noticed. They simply don't see barriers at all.

The music is without compromise as well. What you see, is a bunch of totally over the top young men with enormous bravado. There's no way around them really. Guitarists like mad axe men cross the stage from left to right. The drummer is keeping up the beat as if there's no tomorrow. And then there's that singer, Stephan Kruithof, a born entertainer who runs all over the place, pulling photographers on stage to take pics of the wild crowds. The band is on a mission at SXSW. Their debut album The Lover Kills, out on Squash Records, should get a US release. Don't be surprised if they do come back with a US deal that's come about against all odds.
